Hell - The Buzzin' Fly Q&A
DJ Hell (aka Helmut Geier) releases his new album, Teufelswerk, this month - a double album follow up to 2004's NY Muscle and his breakthrough 1998 opus Munich Machine. We love the first single 'The Angst' so much we asked him to answer a few questions in an effort to throw some light on this titan of the German electonic music scene.

What do you owe your parents?
I owe them some more love.
It is a shame that ...
... the world stands still right now
What does disco mean now?
Disco always means glamour. And it always means John Travolta to me.
The best piece of advice I ever had was ...
... watch the masters.
The last time I cried was ...
... when I saw Grace Jones tonight playing live in Berlin.
How do you organize your records for a gig?
It is always chaos in my box. That's my formula - no system.
What do you always keep in the fridge?
Apfel Schorle
Shoes or trainers?
Classic, black, men's shoes and boots, plus Nike trainers only.
Have you ever had a near-death experience?
Not yet.
What is on the table beside your bed?
Magazines and newspapers and a Braun clock.
To me, sport means ...
... health and life.
How do you protect your hearing?
I never did - that's why I am nearly deaf already.
What would you wear to a fancy dress party?
'Come as you are' was always the best way of dressing up to me.
Tell me two records from the 70's that would still sound good in a DJ set tonight.
Curtis Mayfield. Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side Of The Moon'.
The best way to relax at home is ...
...sleeping
When will people get tired of talking about Berlin?
Here everybody is tired already. We do what we always did and Berlin was already the Mecca of a new generation in the early 90s, so we are at a dangerous turning point here right now.
Will Croatia be the new Ibiza?
There are so many 'new Ibizas' all around the world, so the questions would be 'do we need a new Ibiza ?' I am fine with the old one.
Have you ever kept a pet?
I love cats
Tell me three recent great club tracks that went largely unnoticed.
There are so many club tracks I get the feeling nobody is dropping anymore because they don't fit into the modern way of dance music. The songs from the weekend are already feeling old the next weekend
so people stop collecting music. They just use it for a limited time and throw it away. I hope the Koze mix on Buzzin' Fly gets the attention it should.'
